PAT dogs visiting Romans on a weekly basis Romans care home has established a link with PAT. This idea was orginally put forward by our Friends committee and Vanessa Farmer, Romans manager, has been working hard to link-up with this valuable charity.

PAT is a registered charity and stands for Pets As Therapy. The Society has for some time been aware of the benefit of regular contact with animals and the joy that an animal can bring.

Romans now have their own PAT dog called Oscar. He is a three year old golden retriever who visits the home every Thursday morning with his owner Linda Spring. Oscar is enjoying the attention he receives from the residents in the way of pats and hugs. We hope to have some photos in our gallery of Oscar, Linda and our residents.

If you would like to find out more about PAT and what they do please visit their website at http://www.petsastherapy.org/.

Romans Race night raises over £750 for our residents On Friday 25th September 2009 over 80 people attended a race night at Romans Pub. Chris Pobjoy, the Landlord kindly allowed Romans to run a fundraising event on its premises. The event was a sell-out and the price of the ticket included a fantastic buffet prepared by our resident cook Sandra Catchpole. Janice Mase and Shirley Turner, from our Friends Committee, helped Sandra prepare the food for the evening. Peter Hewitt, a member of the Society, ran the Tote and our compere, Andy from Romans pub, kept us all entertained announcing the races and the winnings.

A special thanks has to go to Jacquie Richards, Romans Secretary, who organised the event and managed to get sponsors for the all the races. Jeanette Benfield, Lesley Ede, Shirley Turner and Julie Veck helped Peter run the Tote and we are grateful for their support.

Thank you to everyone who attended this evening and made it such a great success. We will let you know how the Friends intend to spend the money. These events help the Society to provide extra trips and activities that our residents enjoy and appreciate.
