Romans took part in “A Breath of Fresh Air” last year for the first time and we were delighted to be one of the first 35.
This year all of the residents asked if they could take part in the challenge and the staff were happy to oblige and devised various ways to spend the week outside.
For those residents who were unable to venture outside, due to illness, they were able to sit by an open window. A staff member brought in her guinea pigs and they were stroked, patted and fed. The guineas were on their best behaviour and have been asked for a return visit. This was a very successful venture.
The weather for the week was glorious and some residents enjoyed the garden with our staff. Cream teas were served in the garden and conservatory and flowers were picked and pressed to make greetings cards.
For those more adventurous there was trip to Shoreham Airport for lunch. Nine residents participated with three staff in attendance. Shoreham Airport is very famous and has featured in many films and television series. Unfortunately the only stars there on the day were our residents. We have forged a link with the Airport and intend to visit the Airport again.
All of our staff have enjoyed taking part in this year’s challenge and managed to come up with very innovative ideas for the week. Vanessa Farmer said ” I have enjoyed organising these events with the staff and residents. The cream tea in the garden and the flower pressing was very popular and I intend organise more activities like these.”
Watch our photo gallery for pictures of the week. The website will be updated with news of where we came this year in the Napa challenge.
