Various notes and comments from West Sussex Housing Society:
Rosemary Mount summer fayre raised over £300
Our summer fayre had to move inside thanks to the clouds but despite the typical summer day all those who attended thoroughly enjoyed the range of stalls. The stalls included cream teas, homemade cakes and a book stall. The raffle generated plenty of interested with a variety of prizes. The event was organised by our Friends committee and we are grateful to them for all their hard work in putting the stalls together.
The monies raised will be used to provide entertainment and activities for our residents which is much appreciated.
The Friends are already planning a Christmas fayre so watch this space!
Romans raises funds to purchase a flat screen television
Both Carol Jennings and Edward Shipsey have each carried out fundraising activities in order to fund the purchase a new 42 inch flat screen television.
Carol carried out a sponsored silence and Edward had his head shaved in total they raised nearly £400. The Friends Committee contributed further funds to meet the cost of the television. The home has now taken delivery of their brand new television.
Rosemary Mount Carer helps to save a life
Following a First Aid training course one of our Care Assistants, Joanne Packham, helped to save the life of a young woman.
Jo was off duty in Brighton and helped a young woman who was having a heart attack. Jo said that all the training that she had had came flowing back into her mind and was able to apply all that she had learnt. Well done Jo.
Nintendo Wii at Romans
Romans care home recently received a Nintendo Wii which was purchased out of monies raised by the Friends Committee. The residents also received three games and an additional controller. The home is now a hive of activity with residents bowling and playing tennis without leaving the comfort of the home.
Romans needs volunteers
Romans operates a trolley service for its residents selling toiletries and sweets. The trolley operates every month and takes a small amount of time to wheel the trolley around to our residents. Our residents really appreciate this service but if we don’t get any more volunteers to help us we will have to consider stopping this invaluable service. It is also an opportunity for our volunteers to chat with our residents and for our residents to see a new face. If you would like to discuss becoming volunteer for Romans please contact Jacquie Richards who will provide further details. The telephone number is 01273 270100.
Romans Fundraising Committee looking for volunteers
Our fundraising Committee known as “Friends” consists of staff and resident’s friends and family. The Friends recently met and we urgently need a Secretary. This is not an onerous task the Committee meet every six weeks and organise at least two fundraising events throughout the year. We are looking for a volunteer who has an hour to spare to attend the meetings and assist with the events. Without the Friends Committee we are unable to provide those little extras that our residents appreciate. If you would like to join us please contact Jacquie Richards at Romans Care Home 01273 270100 or email Romans through this website. Thank you for your support.
Romans creates a memories book
Julie Sweet is co-ordinating a residents memory book. So often special memories are lost and at Romans we want to share a special memory. Each resident has been asked for a memory that they would like to share and this will be entered into a book to be kept at Romans. The residents have found it therapeutic to share their memories.
This is an ongoing project and has been enlightening.
Rosemary Mount congratulates Jemma Waller
Jemma is a Senior Carer at our Worthing care home Rosemary Mount. She has recently completed her NVQ three qualification and has been awarded a prize for her course work. The Society is very proud of Jemma Waller’s success and pleased that Care Connect have recognised her efforts. Well done Jemma.
Rosemary Mount receives a donation of a flat screen television
Following the refurbishment of Rosemary Mount a resident’s family has kindly donated a 42” flat screen television. Our residents are enjoying the new television in the comfort of their new refurbished lounge. The Society is very grateful for the kind generosity of the family.
Sponsored Silence at Rosemary Mount
Pam successfully held a sponsored silence on Friday 16th January 2009 and she raised £234. Pam wanted to raise funds for the purchase of a Nintendo Wii for the home. It was hoped that one of the large games companies would donate a Wii to the home but this was not successful. So, Pam took it upon herself to raise the monies and the home is now able to buy a Wii for its residents to enjoy. Thank you Pam for your all efforts and all those who kindly sponsored the event.
3 Star Rating for Rosemary Mount!
Well done to Denise Waller and all the staff at Rosemary Mount. The Commission for Social Care Inspection has recognised all your good work and given you a richly deserved 3 stars after an unannounced visit in August 2008.
